My apologies for the lack of updating on XXX Wasteland recently, as there appears to be an issue with my computer’s ability to load WordPress.com websites. I am currently attempting to resolve the problem and hope the blog will be back online very shortly.
Thank you very much.
XBIZ reports that Pink Visual President Allison Vivas’ new book titled Making Peace With Porn: Adult Entertainment and Your Guy is now available for pre-order.
In the tome, Vivas speaks about her experience with adult entertainment both before and after her tenure in the industry and also counters various misconceptions and stereotypes surrounding the porn business. Additionally, Vivas aims to provide females with a positive framework in which to begin a discussion about adult material with their boyfriends and husbands.
Making Peace With Porn is due for release this spring. You can pre-order the book at the following links:
Intelligent, driven and focused, adult star Nicole Aniston is a young woman with a clear picture of what she wishes her future to hold.
In her two-and-a-half years as part of the erotic entertainment world, Aniston has established a name for herself with roles in films for some of the powerhouse studios of XXX including Hustler, Brazzers, Adam & Eve and Wicked Pictures. Additionally, the blonde bombshell has further cemented her porn status by becoming a mainstay in numerous adult parodies, notably a starring character in Third Degree Films’ 2011 Official Bad Teacher Parody.
Aniston reached a career pinnacle when Penthouse anointed her the brand’s 2013 Pet of the Year last month, arguably the adult industry’s top honor. As part of the accolade, Nicole was featured on the cover of the January 2013 issue of Penthouse (now available on newsstands) and will exclusively represent the company for the next calendar year.
Aniston kindly granted XXX Wasteland an interview on the afternoon of January 14 to discuss being chosen as Penthouse Pet of the Year, her official crowning during last week’s “I Heart Pornstars” party in Hollywood, serving as Official Trophy Girl at the recent 2013 XBIZ Awards gala and more.
First off, I’d like to congratulate you on being selected as Penthouse Pet of the Year.
Thank you! It’s still kind of settling in. I’m definitely very excited to earn the title.
Absolutely. How did it feel when you first discovered you had been chosen?
Gosh … kind of disbelief, I guess. (Laughs) I was up with the Pet of the Month title in August 2012. I was sharing the year with so many equally amazing young women that absolutely deserved the title as much as I do. So, I guess it was kind of down to the basics of who can be professional and best represent the company. So, I feel really honored that they respect me that much and know that I will be respectful, presentable and hospitable to new clients and things like that. So, I’m pretty excited that they think that highly of me.
Will you now be exclusively contracted to Penthouse for a period of time?
I will, I will. Most likely for the next year, I will be solely producing adult content for them. However, I will move on to, I guess, a little bit bigger and better as far as trying to get into mainstream and doing a little bit more mainstream print work, maybe a little acting here and there and also pursue a career more toward nutrition, health and fitness, which is another real big passion of mine, and also photography. So, (the Pet of the Year title) will give me a secure career in the adult field still producing content and maintaining my adult fanbase while also building a new clientele, per se, for things that I really care about also.
Right. And do you have mainstream projects currently on the horizon?
None, actually, so far. I never really pursued it because the transition is a little bit rocky. So, I haven’t put forth too much effort to try and branch into mainstream. I don’t really have a body for modeling; I could do fitness modeling, but I’m only 5’3”, so I’m kind of limited. And those who would even potentially go for my look wouldn’t go for me because of my adult career. So, hopefully (the Pet of the Year designation) will help me branch out a little bit, get some P.R. and some management in mainstream and help me become a little bit more of a marketable brand and a household name.
Are you aware of any Penthouse-related projects or products you will be involved with in the coming year?
With Penthouse, I know for sure I will be doing a lot of traveling, meeting new clients and things like that. I’ve got some other scenes coming out on the website in the next month or so. The current project we’re working on is a little piece directed by Francois Clousot – who is a pretty well-known French director, a very good, close friend of mine – called Blonde Power. So, that will be my next little toy to play with.
Other ways, I really have a knack for photography. I just bought a really nice camera, so hopefully within the next few months I’ll be learning the ins and outs of the camera, photography, shooting and things like that. I’d love to get into directing as soon as possible.
Directing in the adult field or mainstream field?
In the adult field for now until I really learn the ins and outs of the camera work, angles and lighting. I think it’s a really great environment to learn, starting with something as simple as adult work. I don’t want to downplay it – I don’t mean to downplay it at all – but learning in a much simpler, low-pressure environment, I think, would be the ideal situation. So, that’s my goal in the next few months.
Excellent. Your official crowning as 2013 Penthouse Pet of the Year took place at the “I Heart Pornstars” party in Hollywood on Thursday night. Can you tell us about that night and what it was like to be the focus of the entire evening?
Well, I had a little bit of trepidation going into the evening because I’m not very good at being the focus of attention. I’ve been told that I am, but I don’t regard myself as the kind of woman that comes into a room and commands attention – nor do I want that. So, walking into room with an entire group of people that I love and respect to have a tribute or an honor to me is so humbling and so exciting at the same time. I wasn’t too sure if I was going to enjoy it or if I was going to feel overwhelmed, but I had a very nice time. It was at the Key Club; we had great bottle service all night and they have a fantastic menu, really nice items on the menu.
It was really enjoyable. We had a band who is also an adult performer – the lead singer. The band’s name is Til All Is One; they performed a couple different sets, I think they did an hour of performing. It was really fantastic to see one of my peers in the adult film industry performing at the Key Club.
So, it was fun. It was a really enjoyable night. Everyone was in good spirits and it was the beginning of a new year as well, so it was really enjoyable. It was very nice.
Very cool. And of course, you served as an Official Trophy Girl for the XBIZ Awards ceremony the following night. Can you tell us about that evening as well?
That was a lot of fun, too. A little tiring – it didn’t end up commencing until a little later in the evening. It was scheduled to start around 9-9:30 and didn’t begin until much, much later and ended around 1:30 in the morning.
(Laughs) Yeah. So, arriving there around 7:00 p.m., the other Trophy Girl and I … Riley Reid is her name. She was fantastic, that was my first time really spending time with her. That was so pleasant. It really didn’t end up getting underway until much later and trying to manage many of the presenters that had been drinking for several hours during the red carpet event was a little chaotic. I’m not a huge drinker myself, so I don’t really have to worry about corralling myself to where I need to be. But corralling the rest of the girls? A little bit of a task.
But it was really fun. I love the high-pressure, high-maintenance atmosphere and a lot of intensity in a situation like that, where it required a lot of organization – I feel I’m very good at that. So, I had a great time with the backstage managers and handing out awards and congratulating my peers for their accomplishments throughout the 2012 year.
So, it was a really nice time. I had a really good time and met people that I had never spent time around before. So, it was great. The awards ceremony was really well-done.
Very nice. Going back a little bit, can you tell us how you initially entered the adult industry?
I entered the adult industry on a whim. It was an opportunity that was absolutely handed to me on a silver platter. Everyone asks, “Why? Why did you get in? What was your reasoning behind it?” And the simplicity behind it is that I just ran out of money. I was in a pretty tough financial situation – I had kicked out the person I was living with, my job cut my hours in half and it was quite a tough time.
A friend of mine and I decided to send some photos up to L.A. to an agency and they signed me. We filled out the paperwork and within about four days I did my first shoot. It was so seamless; I felt very comfortable, my first shoot went very well – it was for a company called Reality Kings. I had a great day. I felt very comfortable, they were very hospitable and welcoming and it was a very low-pressure situation. And I think if I had not had that ideal situation and very comfortable atmosphere, I would not have pursued it any further. But I did, so I felt I could pursue it as a career.
And I kind of haven’t looked back since. My bills are paid on a regular basis and I have no debt whatsoever. I live very simply and live a very clean, simple life, a very healthy lifestyle and really have no worries. So, I have kind of just never looked back.
It’s absolutely a means to an end. It’s been about two-and-a-half years and I feel like I’m getting closer to doing something a little bit more meaningful and productive creatively, that gives me a more creative outlet. But it’s a process and it’s a transition. So, I’m taking the appropriate time to get to that point. I’m not just jumping from one project to another; I really want to know the ins and outs of the thing that I’m working on and be the best at what I’m doing. So, it’s a transition. It’s going well, though.
Great. Over the past couple of years, you have acquired regular roles in some major parodies including Exquisite Films’ Xena and Tomb Raider as well as starring in the Bad Teacher parody for Third Degree Films. Are you happy about becoming a mainstay in the parodies and do you enjoy the acting and dialogue aspects that go along with them?
I love the parodies, yes. I think that will be one of the major things that I miss being contracted with Penthouse is the parodies and working with such amazing crews such as Third Degree and Exquisite. I love the crews and have built such amazing rapport with such amazing, creative people. I’m going to miss those different crews and all those different ideas, concepts and costumes. It’s only a year that I’ll be contracted with this company and yet I’m already looking forward to hopefully working with them in the future again – maybe not in front of the camera, but behind the camera, absolutely. I love the parodies and the people that I’m cast with, the costumes, the set design and it’s so fun. And yet, people usually don’t put that much thought into the details behind what goes into a porn (film). It’s a lot of work. (Laughs)
There’s a lot more to it than just two people doing an act on camera – there’s a lot more to it. And I’m definitely having a lot more appreciation for production value working with such amazing companies doing these parodies and sets and all of the things that they do in post (production). It’s really neat and I have a new appreciation for it, definitely.
Are there one or two misconceptions about the adult business from people outside the industry that particularly bother you?
There are a lot of misconceptions, to be completely honest, that I was completely oblivious to. I had never even watched adult films before I got into the industry via just choice; I really had no interest. The concept of sex was kind of uncomfortable to me before I got into the industry. I had my stigmas and I had my judgemental views. But I’m also a little bit of a different person than a lot of my fellow female performers. I regard myself as a very clean-living, very simple, healthy lifestyle kind of woman and a lot of my co-stars are not, which is a stigma that is absolutely there for a reason. Stigmas don’t just appear out of nowhere; they appear because there is a consistency in the type of people that are involved in the industry. And it can be true.
The only stigma that I have a problem with is that I suppose there is no crossover, there is no transition. There are a lot of very significant individuals – men and women – that are adult performers who are extremely creative, extremely intelligent, lead healthy lifestyles, very professional, honest and reputable people that really do deserve a shot in mainstream or doing something outside adult films but still in the public eye that aren’t given a chance because Consensus America doesn’t like the thought of an adult performer – a “porn star” … it’s kind of a shame that they don’t give individuals like that a shot to just be a person. They are not an object, they’re not a meat puppet, they are an actual person and they have a lot to offer. I think that’s the only downside of that.
I agree with you. I have always felt it is terribly unfortunate that just because somebody has an adult background that it excludes them from so many opportunities.
It does – not only in the public eye, but there are many other even basic, white-collar jobs that will look into that past and will not allow you to work. I’ve had friends say that they couldn’t get jobs in some kind of a P.R. or H.R. status because of their past as an adult performer. So, we’re kind of limited in what we do after porn. I guess it just depends on the connections you make. It’s a fine line now – there’s a lot of gray area. It’s not just black and white; there is plenty of gray area to play with and you can do it. It just has to be tactful.
Absolutely. May I ask a few questions about yourself as a person?
Thanks. Can you tell us where you were raised and how you would describe yourself growing up?
I was brought up in Southern California – born and raised – and I’m still local. I’ll probably never leave. (Laughs) I’m more towards San Diego than I am to Los Angeles and will never live in L.A., although it takes care of me professionally and financially. It doesn’t tolerate me very well as a person because I prefer a little bit more of a small-town, hometown atmosphere that I really enjoy and that’s my persona, that’s who I am as a woman.
Growing up, very white picket-fence, small-town. I came from a mother who was a horse breeder and a dad who worked in GPS contracting and grading and things like that for big companies.
We grew up real simple – we were the mac and cheese, the Hamburger Helper family. I came from very humble beginnings. I grew up on a horse, doing quads and guns – I guess you could say “redneck” – we’re a pretty redneck family. But I wouldn’t have it any other way – it’s given me a pretty solid foundation of the kind of character that I want to represent to others and the type of business ethic and personal ethics that I display to people that I care about and work with.
I think that it’s been pretty good for me; it’s not something that you see all the time in Los Angeles, which means that I kind of stick out like a sore thumb with how I talk, act and behave professionally, especially in the adult industry. So, I like that about myself.
Besides that, I never did any modeling, I never did any child pageants, never did anything strange like that. I was a little bit more of a sheltered child, never was really taught about sex or a lot of the basic feminine aspects of hair and makeup. So, it was something that when I reached pre-adulthood that I basically had to teach myself.
It was a slow learning process and in adulthood I was very naïve, there were a lot of things I had to learn on my own. And yet, I think the point in which I got into the adult industry was absolutely necessary for my character and for my development as a person. I feel that if I hadn’t made that jump and made the commitment to stick to it and learn and experience all of these different people and perspectives in the industry that I work in that I wouldn’t be the same woman. I feel like it was necessary.
How about interests and hobbies away from work?
Gosh … I’m still very much into guns and hunting, fishing, hiking – very outdoorsy. Not much for chick flicks and shopping – I think the closest thing I can do is wineries once in a while. (Laughs) But I’m not really a girly-girl. I love hair and makeup and I love a lot of the creativity in femininity, and yet I’m just now finally getting good at it at 25 years old. (Laughs) So, there’s a lot that I have to learn still.
But I love being outside. I could literally sit out on my road all day and just fish. I still like horseback riding a bit, I’ve kind of grown up on that. But otherwise, I’m getting into some photography and some nutrition and health.
I’m a pretty simple gal. I kind of stick to the simple and the basic things of life that I enjoy and appreciate and can find in my hometown and don’t have to go to L.A. for.
Is there one thing about yourself that you think would surprise most people?
No, not really – I pretty much wear everything out on my sleeve. I’m a very out-there person. Everybody has all my details – you can look on the Internet and find damn near anything about me.
I’ve been in the industry about two-and-a-half years and I feel like it’s going according to plan. I did not anticipate Pet of the Year, but here it is and I feel like I couldn’t be in a more ideal position as far as being right along track to not perform anymore because it’s just not my forte. I don’t feel like it’s glamorous or that I’m a star. I’m very much humbled by the entire experience that anyone even wants to tolerate my company for more than an hour. (Laughs)
I don’t really have anything very interesting about me. I’m kind of just a simple girl-next-door that happens to do this job.
Are there any current or upcoming projects in the works that you would like to put out there?
Gosh … bedsides Penthouse, that’s about all that I’ve got going on right now. And AVN will be this week. I’ll be out at AVN visiting and chatting with the fans and hosting a party (Saturday, January 19 at PURE nightclub in Las Vegas). But we’re still in the first portion of the year, thankfully – plenty to look forward to, lots of creativity and learning in these next few months until I get into some really big projects. But everything adult-wise is exclusive to Penthouse and I’ve got a couple of tricks up my sleeve yet that I’m not quite talking about, but everything adult will be at Penthouse.
To finish up, is there anything further you wish to say to readers?
Again, thank you for tolerating me. (Laughs) It’s been a great two-and-a-half years and I’m sure I’ll be entertaining for years to come. Thank you for the positivity, love and support and I will continue to always be improving myself, my character and my performance, and my output in product. Lots of love and appreciation – thank you.
Awesome. Thank you for taking some time to speak with me today. Again, I congratulate you on becoming Pet of the Year and best wishes for what I’m sure is going to be a huge year for you. Have a terrific day.
Likewise. Thank you very much! Take care.
