ab332Adult Video News reports that Chairman of the California Appropriations Committee Mike Gatto yesterday shelved Assembly Bill 332, the proposed law which would require the use of condoms and other barrier protection on adult film shoots statewide.

Gatto cited First Amendment concerns and financial reasons for declining the progression of AB 332. Assemblyman Isadore Hall III, who sponsored the bill, expressed his disappointment at the Chairman’s decision and vowed to continue fighting for AB 332. Hall told AVN he plans to reintroduce the initiative, as in California, legislation that is introduced in the first year of a two-year session that has not passed both houses of the legislature at the time the first year of the session is closed can be acted upon in the early part of the second year’s session. The current legislature is in the first of a two-year session.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation President Michael Weinstein issued a statement to HeraldOnline.com insinuating the possibility of pushing for AB 332 to be placed on ballot for California voters to decide, which is how the Measure B condom mandate was passed.
