First off, I’d like to congratulate you on being named Trophy Girl for the XBIZ Awards coming up next month.

Oh, thank you!

How did it feel when you found out you had been selected?

It felt great. You probably know I’ve only been in (the adult industry) not even a year-and-a-half, so it feels really great to so quickly be recognized. I told them it feels good to be recognized as part of the industry already. I know it takes a lot of girls a couple of years to get to where I’m at and I’ve had a lot of really good people behind me and on my team to set my career up, so it’s been really, really great and I feel really honored.

You are also nominated for a number of XBIZ and AVN Awards, most notably Best New Starlet for both. It must feel pretty good to be recognized so prominently after a year-and-a-half in the business.

Yeah, exactly. Honestly, there are really no words to describe it. When I found out I was nominated I was in public, so I didn’t want to do the victory dance, but inside I was screaming a little bit – I was like, “Yay !” (Laughs) Whether I win or not, I’m not even worried about that. It just feels great to have at least been nominated.

But honestly, the one I’m super-stoked about was the Best Supporting Actress nomination. Honestly, if I had to choose one, I would … I don’t know. I want the Best New Starlet, but I really am glad that they noted me for my acting ability as well. So, I’m really excited and honored for that one, too.

Do you feel good about your chances of winning in all of the award categories?

As far as the Best New Starlet, yeah, I do, just because … honestly, I think that Mia (Malkova) will probably win it and more power to her. She’s really sweet; she’s a really cool, genuine person. But I feel like I have a good chance just because I’m pretty involved in the industry dating a director and I know that AVN sees me as someone who plans to make this a full-time career and I take it very seriously. So, I know that politically from that standpoint they look at that as well. But, you know, may the best win and I’m just happy to be a part of it.

Can you tell us how you entered the adult industry initially?

Yeah. (Laughs) You know, this is why I feel like everything happens for a reason: because it was so random. I didn’t think about it at all. In fact, a year prior to getting into the industry, Bang Bros had actually hit me up on my Model Mayhem account and were like, “Hey, would you ever do porn?” And at the time – I was 18 – I was like, “Fuck that! I’ll never do that – that’s disgusting!” Blah, blah, blah – because I was naïve to it, like everyone outside the industry is for the most part.

Shortly after my nineteenth birthday – not this summer, but last summer, August of 2012 – I had been dancing and doing nude shoots and stuff like that, so I had been used to being in front of the camera nude and that kind of thing, but obviously not fucking or anything like that.

A girl I had danced with asked me to come and hang out at her house for a couple of days and she was like, “I webcam – do you want to webcam with me?” So, I was like, “Sure. I’ve never done it before, but whatever.” So, we were just dancing and fooling around on the webcam and an agent had found me on there and was like, “Hey, would you consider doing this?” And I don’t know why it was so different a year later – my mentality – but I was just like, “Yeah! Why not?”

And I didn’t just jump into it. I did a little bit of research for a couple of days and a couple days later I was on a plane to Miami and I started there. (Laughs) To be completely honest, it was the worst three weeks of my life. (Laughs) But I’m thankful that I listened to one of the girls who was like, “No, come out to L.A. L.A.’s awesome, it’s very professional. You’ll meet cool people.” I went home, I thought about it a little bit more, I took a couple of weeks off and I came out to L.A. and I’ve pretty much been out here since basically October of last year and I love it.

jessa-rhodes_vnbt072713_gordon_4Terrific. You have worked for some of the heavy-hitting studios during your time in the industry, including Tasha Reign’s company, Reign Productions, Zero Tolerance and Wicked as well.

Yeah. I have twelve or thirteen titles with Wicked, which is why they aren’t shooting me right now (Laughs) – because I basically have a movie a month for how long I’ve been in.

Yeah – Wicked, Zero Tolerance, I have a lot of titles with them. I more or less just recently started shooting with them because I kind of struck deals with them here and there for covers and whatever.

Wicked, Porn Pros, Naughty America, Hustler – I’ve pretty much shot for every company. There are the ones I won’t shoot for. I try to keep my name fairly clean (Laughs), so there are certain companies that are on my “No” list.

Do you have any favorite companies or performers to work with or perhaps talent and studios you haven’t had a chance to yet that you would like to work with in the future?

Yeah. You know, Tyler Nixon – if I had to say one person I’ve worked with the most, it’s probably him. He’s really awesome to be on set with just because we’re so comfortable with each other. It’s more like a brother/sister kind of friendship than anything else. We do our scenes; it’s very professional, but it’s fun.

As far as girls, there are so many hot girls – I love all the girls in this industry. There are really not many that I don’t like. It would be really hard to choose who is my favorite.

As far as people who I haven’t gotten to shoot with … as far as guys, I have a strict “Yes”/“No” list. One guy who I do want to work with who is on my “Yes” list that I haven’t worked with yet is Manuel Ferrara.

As far as girls … Jesse Jane was the first porn star that I ever knew about. I was from a really sheltered little family, so I knew about her before I even knew about Jenna (Jameson). I didn’t really know anything about porn until I walked into a porn shop when I was 18. (Laughs) But I would like to work with her just because when I think of porn, that’s who I think of.

Do you have any specific aspirations in mind for your career looking down the road?

Honestly, jessica drake has been a serious role model for me and that’s where I want to end up – I want to brand myself, maybe even get a college degree and kind of do what she does. She knows her shit, she knows what she’s talking about. She went to school for sex ed and all that kind of stuff, she wrote a book about it. That’s kind of where I want to go with it. I don’t want to just be this girl who fucks on film, I really want to be branded. When people think of porn, they usually think of this girl taking three dicks in the ass or whatever. I still want to maintain a classy image, which jessica drake has done throughout her entire career. So, if I have one person that I could say, “That’s who I want to be like,” it would be her.

This past summer, you were featured along with a number of other industry starlets in a music video for the band Hollywood Undead, is that right?

I was! (Laughs)

Can you talk a little bit about that experience?

It was a lot of fun! I had a blast. Craven (Moorehead) asked my fiancé Barrett to shoot camera on it, so he was like, “Do you want to come hang out and be in the video?” And I was like, “Yeah, sure! I‘ll see what‘s up.” I met Derek Mears; I didn’t know who he was at first. I was talking to him and someone was like, “Oh, you’re the guy from Friday the 13th.” And I was like, “Wait, so you’re Jason?” He’s like, “Yeah.” It was cool. We were just kind of meeting a whole bunch of random people.

The shoot was a lot of fun. I don’t know if you’ve seen it, but it was a masquerade kind of thing. It was a blast. When they told me what they were going to do with the special effects, I was all stoked. I was like, “Yay! I get to be all demonic and creepy for once – cool!” (Laughs)

(Laughs) Yeah, very cool.

(Laughs) Yeah.

photoIs there maybe one misconception about the adult industry from people outside the business that you wish you could dispel?

Yes. Actually, there’s a lot – where do I begin? For me, personally, it kind of hits home because I have had a family member now choose to disown me because of being in the industry. And I feel he did that because he is not educated as to what really goes on. Granted, there is a good side and there is a bad side, just like there is to any entertainment industry, whether it’s music, movies, modeling – there is a good and a bad side. And I won’t say who I think is the dark side of the porn industry, but obviously I stay away from those people.

It’s one of those things … for instance, with me, when people back home found out I was doing porn, they were like, “Oh, she’s probably like taking five guys in the ass and cream pies and having set babies … she’s probably doing tons of blow …”

I kind of had to put it in perspective for my mom. When you think about it, I have a “Yes”/”No” list. I have about twelve or thirteen guys on my “Yes” list that I work with all year round. I’m fucking the same twelve or thirteen guys all year round that are all tested. I get tested every fourteen days. I’m on birth control. I’ve never been more sober in my life because I’m so focused on my career and what I want to do and I don’t have time to even party. Right now, I’m in Texas; I’m about to go on stage in a couple hours to feature. I’ve never been so focused and goal-oriented in my life and it’s a great feeling. I wish everyone could know what it’s actually about.

I feel like that’s the difference between people who want to get paid to just fuck on camera – they want that quick fuck – and people who really take this business seriously, want to make a career out of it and are careful of who they do and do not sleep with and what they do in their free time because it all affects each other. We’re basically (Laughs), for lack of a better term, one big, incestuous family.

That’s what bothers me about, say, escorting. I don’t escort. I don’t hook. I don’t judge the girls that do, but I don’t necessarily want to know that I just worked with a guy who did work with a girl who was just out escorting the night before. But you can’t moderate this thing, you can’t really keep an eye on it. People are going to do what they’re going to do and it’s just up to other people to maintain a better sense of living, I guess.

But, it’s kind of like that. Especially with the drug thing. It’s funny, because everywhere I go, I guess porn … and I get it because apparently the porn drug is cocaine … but everywhere I go, everyone’s like, “Oh, you don’t have any blow?” It’s just stereotypes – just like cheerleaders are stereotyped to be stupid or whatever the case is. So, you deal with it all day, every day. But, it is what it is. You have to educate people.

Absolutely. May I ask a few questions about yourself as a person if that’s okay?

Yeah … don’t get too deep on me! (Laughs)

(Laughs) No, I won’t.

(Laughs)

Can you tell us where you were raised and how you would describe yourself growing up?

I was raised in Oregon in a small little hick town. (Laughs) I was raised very Christian. I’m the youngest of seven kids.

I was really, really shy growing up – really shy. I didn’t really start to hang out with people or have friends until I was … well, I was home-schooled until sixth grade. I started public school in sixth grade and then eighth grade came and I started coming out of my shell a little bit, just the normal kind of high school stuff.

Looking at me now and looking at me just three years ago, there’s a dramatic difference. I wouldn’t say I was reserved, but if you were to tell me three years ago, “You’re going to be doing porn in a couple years,” I would have been like, “Sheah, right!” I know a lot of girls, they have that Christian or Catholic background and then they get into this industry almost out of spite, but I still hold very true to my morals and the way I was raised and I feel like I can do both, you know what I’m saying?

Yeah. How about interests and hobbies outside of work?

I love MMA. I’m a Dallas Cowboys fan. (Laughs) I spend a lot of time with my dog. I’m going to start working on some animal rights activist kind of stuff because it’s something that I’m really passionate about, but something that I haven’t really grasped onto yet. I haven’t really gotten the ball rolling with anything, I’ve kind of just been sitting back and bitching about it, but not really doing anything. So, that’s something that I’m really wanting to work towards.

I like boxing, I like that kind of stuff. I’m kind of a boy. (Laughs) I’m like a boy, mentally, with a vagina. (Laughs)

Mostly, my hobby right now is working. I’m really just trying to make my name, so I really don’t have time for a lot of extra stuff. I wish I did. (Laughs)

(Laughs) Sure. How about favorites – favorite movie, T.V. show, musical artists and things like that?

My favorite comedian would probably have to be Will Ferrell. Musical artist, I would have to go with Whitesnake. (Laughs) I’m so old-school. Favorite movie … probably Step Brothers or Talladega Nights – something really stupid. (Laughs) I love Chinese food and sushi. My favorite color is red. (Laughs)

jessa-rhodes_ssprtycol083113_gordon_03(Laughs) Very cool. Is there one thing about yourself that you feel would surprise people?

Yeah, but I don’t know if I want to say it (Laughs) … because a lot of people, it grosses them out! (Laughs)

(Laughs)

I chew tobacco in my spare time – Copenhagen. (Laughs) I’m pretty open – there aren’t a whole lot of surprises about me. I usually speak my mind. I feel like even a stranger knows me pretty well – not in a creepy way, but I’m very open about myself and what I am.

Are there any current or upcoming projects in the works that you would like to put out there?

Yeah. Actually, Pony Tales, obviously. That’s coming out soon. I just did a Digital Playground movie called Champagne Showers; we just finished shooting that like a week-and-a-half ago, so I’m sure that will take a few months to come out.

Is that your first film with Digital Playground?

It is actually my first film with Digital Playground, so I’m really excited that they gave me the lead and were really happy with my acting ability. Keiran (Lee), he caught me on kind of an “off” day the first time that we ever worked together and my acting really was just not there. (Laughs) It was a very emotionally stressful day and that was his first impression, so when he gave me this role, he was kind of shitting himself.

For me, I goof around on set – not to the point where it’s disruptive or anything, but if I’m running lines I’m always sarcastic or whatever, like “Ha, ha!” and not taking it super seriously, but the second the camera starts rolling, I’m on it. I already know how I’m going to say it and when I’m going to say it and where my direction is. But, he was all nervous because when I first showed up on set, we started running lines – I was running lines with Tyler, actually – and he’s like, “Jessa, you need to start being serious about this.” And I was like, “No, no, no – it’s fine, it’s fine.” And I could see him sitting over with one of the other directors and they’re like, “Oh, fuck – what did we get ourselves into?” I’m laughing, of course. The second the camera starts rolling, they’re like, “Oh … okay, cool.” So, by the end of the three days, they were like, “We’re really impressed. You were really great and not what we were expecting. We were shitting ourselves when you were running lines originally.”

I guess I’ll be playing Jenny in Brazzers’ Forrest Gump coming up in December. (Laughs) So, that should be interesting. But, yeah, that was really cool to be able to shoot with them.

My website I am currently working on. I’m getting it fixed up with Gamma, so hopefully it will be out and running by March, if not sooner. That’s JessaRhodesXXX.com; so, that’s a project I’m working on.

And you were on the cover of Hustler as well this month?

It was actually for the month of December, but it came out in September. That was my first magazine cover. I was on the cover of Cheri magazine and I’m hearing through the grapevine that Penthouse is next, but I don’t know what’s going on with Penthouse. They’re not really sure what they’re doing, but keep your fingers crossed for me! (Laughs)

(Laughs) Yeah, absolutely. To finish up, is there anything else you wish to say to readers?

Yeah – just follow me on Twitter, look for my website. Those movies are coming out.

Oh, one thing I really want to mention is SnapChats. I now am the feature spokesmodel for this new thing called SnapGirlz. It’s really cool because it’s a totally new, different way for fans to connect with me on an exclusive level.

Basically, what it is … if they go to SnapGirlz.com, they will find my picture and if they want to be in my theater, the maximum amount of people is three thousand. So, basically it’s like a V.I.P. route – you can be one of only three thousand people to ever see this content.

So, they click on it – it’s sixteen dollars a month. They get SnapChats from me. It’s supposed to be Monday through Friday, but I still SnapChat on the weekends. Two Snaps a day is the minimum, but of course, to keep the fans happy I always do more.

Basically, what it is, you send them SnapChats throughout the day. They can Snap you back. Tonight, I’m going out to the club, I’ll be dancing, so of course, I’ll be SnapChatting there. But the cool thing is SnapChats now has a button which basically adds all of your Snaps together and they get deleted every 24 hours. So, it’s actually cooler for the fans because they can replay if they want to.

But, it’s really cool because once that Snap is sent, it’s the closest thing to being there with me. They can watch one of my porns that was filmed two months ago, but it’s not going to be the same as like, “She’s in Texas right now, she’s about to go on stage and she just sent me a Snap of her outfit,” stuff like that. So, it’s a lot more personal and it’s exclusive, so it makes it even more personal. It’s just a lot of fun, so that’s basically what I’m trying to get out there right now.

They have a Twitter and obviously there is a website and everything. It’s been going really well. We’re doing a free trial right now; it’s only free until December 13. Just so that people know what they’re getting, we decided to do a free test run. People seem to be liking it a lot, so I’m hoping it’s the next big interaction thing. So, we’ll see. (Laughs)

photo22Yeah, it sounds pretty cool and unique.

Yeah, it’s a lot of fun.

Great. I appreciate you taking some time out tonight to speak with me, especially since you are on the road right now.

Yeah, absolutely. Thank you – it was a pleasure talking to you.

You as well. I congratulate you on everything – you have certainly made a big mark on the industry thus far and I’m sure there are many great things ahead. Good luck next month and all the best in the future.

Thank you very much – have a great Christmas, too!
